Might I suggest the same with you for moving this conversation back
on-list. You don't like somebody's comments, set up a filter and send
the mail straight to /dev/null, problem solved.
Back to On topic issues about OOo.

I didn't move the conversation back onto the list; it never was off the list. Just because somebody sends me rude comments privately doesn't mean that the problem and the thread have been moved off the list! Nor does that give him the right to elude the social control of the group.

This list is apparently unmoderated. The only way to control asocial behavior in the absence of a moderator is to have many people (privately) tell the aggressive list member to stop being aggressive. Your comments, John, did not help to improve the list's atmosphere or effectiveness nor did they make it clear that you, hopefully, don't condone the aggressor's behavior.

Keeping this list at least civil is very much on topic and important to make it useful and effective for OOo.
