NeoOffice is OpenOffice.org.
No.
??? NeoOffice1.2=OOo 1.1.5 on OSX what are you trying to say by "no" ?
But they are not the same! If they are the same, they can share the
code
mutually. This is not the case.
This is the case. NeoOffice uses the OOo1.1.5 code, removes the X11
dependencies and recreates the GUI based on Java GUI. OOo uses code
donated by NeoOffice.
It looks like you are a little confused by what "the same app" means.
OOo for OSX is not OOo for Windows which is not OOo for Linux. They
all have code difference based on the platform they are ported to and
based on the GUI framework they use.
We should not forget about the difference and we should not confuse
users
with statements like
If you have NeoOffice there's not much need to install
OpenOffice.org - it's the same program.
Do you prentend there is a need to have OOo _and_ NeoOffice on a
machine to do things in OOo that can't be done with NeoOffice besides
for the version difference ? Or do you mean something else here?
Also for example think of the differences like Crystal icons, ODT file
format etc.
OpenDocument is supported from OOo1.1.5 and 1.1.5 was released
because 2.0 was becoming late. NeoOffice uses OOo1.1.5 without the
X11 GUI dependancies. And thus supports OpenDocument at the exact
same level as OOo1.1.5 does.
Chad: I have never heard you telling that OpenOffice.org is the
same as
Neo.
Well, maybe I can say it then. OOo 1.1.5 is the same as NeoOffice
1.1.5 as far as the office suite is concerned. And as far as OSX
users are concerned, they are much better off with NeoOffice since it
gives them access to the full range of OSX character input systems,
to all their fonts without having to install any other software
(which is not the case for OOo in general since to have OOo running
on MacOSX you need X11, if you want specific character input systems
you need to install X11 dependant systems and if you want to have
your fonts, as well as a smooth Mac-level display you have a lot more
to do.)
I only heard the opposite. Why? Don't you think you are only making
unnecessary "wars" between both teams?
Maybe Chad is over-simplifying sometimes, but it seems to me _you_
are them one who is sending inflamatory mails.
Don't you think that both Mac OS X porting team and Neo team want
to get closer, to cooperate closer?
Which is exactly what is occuring now and I can assure you that
developers on either side could make without people like you who make
a useless fuss on open lists. Your claim that OOo and NeoOffice are
different is just as ridiculous as if somebody claimed that
StarOffice and OOo are different.
