This is one of the most annoying "helpful" functions possible. Far too
often I do NOT want the first character capitalized, and having this
feature turned on forces multiple keystrokes/mousing to correct, and
sometimes it takes multiple tries to force the lowercase because it
keeps changing back to uppercase as you type. Having the option to
correct capitalization of a selection after the fact is much more
useful and efficient.

I don't think this should be an "effect". It should act strictly on
the data, and what you see should be what is actually in the text.

I don't actually need this myself, but I've seen other people asking
for it before. It does seem to be related to caps lock (mis)usage.

I've never had this happen with Word, but then I don't use "effects"
much. This seems to happen most when I'm creating a headline in all
caps, and the spell check (as you type) wants to finish a word, but
*always* in the opposite case. If I'm typing all caps, it wants to use
lower case. If I'm typing in lower case, it wants to use upper case.
Now I understand a little better how to prevent or fix it, now that I
know about the effects thing.
