Thank you for your comments, I am using MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51<http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html>which seems to be the latest version, woud it be advisable to go back to the older 2.5 version? Or is there an alternative to the connectors on the MySQL site that I could consider.
I could change to the JDBC but I can't find a install file for it and my system seems to have a real problem finding the JRE, I've reinstalled it a number of times (and MySQL and Oo) but they never seemt o find each other....
