No, 2.5 is not advisable today anymore. But even 3.51 has different sub versions, and some of them were problematic (for instance 3.51.11). However, if you freshly downloaded it, you probably have the latest and greatest ... I still suppose it's some problem with the versions of all involved components, but that's hard to guess. What OS do you work on? Can't say much about this. If Tools/Options/Java does not find your JRE ... don't know. If it does find it, then the only additional thing you'd need to do is to add the JDBC driver to the Classpath (also in Tools/Options/Java).
