I'm using an old and slow AMD K6-2 for email and switched to avast! from AVG because it isn't as slow on this machine. It does it's job very well. --
If you have tried it I guess I have to believe you. I've got my information from a company who tried and failed. Their peoblem was that when using Avast on Windows 98, defrag could take several days to perform (this was a couple of years ago so their HDD wasn't that big either). I didn't matter wether Avast was running or not, the only thing they could do that helped was to uninstall it completely. I have no experience of my own in this matter, since I only used Avast on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Now, when I have Windows 98 again (my Windows 2000 and XP CD's were kind of "pirate", shame on me, but since a couple of years back I do not use "pirateware" anymore, that's why I got back to Windows 98 which came with my computer back in 1999, just in case someone wondered about it), and I read about that companie's problems with Avast on Windows 98, I started to use AVG instead, and I am very happy with it, so I had no reason to try something else. Almost all friends and other people I know who had any kind of trouble with Antivirus software were using Norton. Maybe it's because Norton is the most frequently used Antivirus software (is it?) or maybe it is because Norton is just not good enough? I don'tknow... AVG and AVAST are free, that's right, but if you use it in commersial situations (if you are a company, kind of) you have to pay for it and as far as I understand, you get the same version wether you have to pay for it or not (maybe the commercial version has more features, but those features they have in common should really be the same thing, I think). So... that's what I think, at least. Regards Johnny
