2006/10/25, Piers Dunkley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I am using a mac G4 800 and OSX 10.4.8 When I attempted to launch OpenOffice 2.0.4 I received a message that I needed X11 for the program to work. I downloaded the program from the Apple web site and attempted to install it and got the following "You cannot install X11 in this volume. Newer software already exists on your computer" I seem to be going round in circles here. Can anyone help?
Hello The X11 version on the Apple website is for Panther (10.3.x), you have Tiger (10.4.x). When Tiger was installed on your computer, X11 probably/apparently wasn't included in the installation. On your Tiger installation DVD, you'll find the right version of X11 ( X11User.pkg). Install this on your harddisk and all should go well. In case of more problems: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/installing/X11.html mind also the X11 preferences (disable full screen mode, enable Millions of Colours) good luck! -- Guy
