I have just downloaded 2.1 and am not able to install as I get the
Internal Error 2755.1601
C:\OpenOffice\OOo2.1\openoffice org21.msi.
Googling the error message brought up several references with different
possible solutions:
a) Clear out your "temp" directory.
b) Re-download the file. You may have got a corruption, particularly if
your internet connection is slow or of poor quality. You can check the
file by running the MD5sum checker program and comparing the result to
the correct value for your specific file which can be found at
http://download.openoffice.org/2.1.0/md5sums.html. Instructions for
downloading and running the MD5sum checker can be found by clicking
"Instructions for using md5sums" on the same web page and then scrolling
down till you find the instructions for Windows.
c) Make sure you downloaded the file from a reliable source. The best
place is found by clicking the big green button labelled "Download
OpenOffice.org" at http://download.openoffice.org/2.1.0/index.html
I particularly created the destination C:\OpenOffice\OOo2.1 as I
downloaded the slightly earlier version about 2 weeks ago. That
brings up another query, as I tried to uninstall that earlier version
size 318.00MB using Add or Remove Programs but it would not let me
uninstall.
Before uninstalling you need to ensure that Quickstarter is not running.
If it is running there will be an icon in the System Tray (probably
bottom right of your screen). The icon is grey and has a picture of 3
flying birds. Right click this icon and choose "Exit". Now the
add/remove should work.
Presuming you are able to give me clear instructions for resolving
the failure to install, would you also inform me what I need to do
regarding the earlier version I installed recently, - or have you
built in a feature to take care of that. Please bear in mind that I
have them in entirely different directories.
I did not opt to download to my documents. My Windows version is XP
home SP2
Not sure what you mean here. You need to run the downloaded file.
Running it causes it to unpack itself into a directory of your choice
and then, *automatically*, to install OpenOffice by running the setup
program arising from the unpack process. The original downloaded file
and all the unpacked files can then safely be removed. Only the files
resulting from the install process (download -> unpack -> install) need
to be kept. These would normally be in C:\Program Files\..." plus a few
other directories for dlls etc.
I am David Anderson, a current member and yesterday I sent you a
completed Error report form about my inability to get the program to
even download in the first place. You acknowledged that by issuing
the reference JISCM751.
Don't know anything about this. I have never heard of this form (this
mail list is run by volunteers in our spare time). Where did you find
this error report form?
ps my livid username is not an indication of displeasure at the
current happenings - it is our family way of indicating the email is
from LIsbeth and David
Suggest "lisdav" to avoid having to explain all the time that you are
not furious.
