I don't think it is possible via the interface. A possible work around would be to produce a template with duplicates of your existing styles, perhaps naming them "X" and "draft_X". Apply different backgrounds to the draft styles, you could use colour or images with appropriate text. Once your document is finished, use "Find and Replace" with the style option enabled, to replace the draft styles with your original styles.
