Open Office can happily co-exist with M$Office so you do not need to be
concerned about the installation/uninstallation sequence.
Open Office can open Micro$oft Office files (not publisher files)
although you may need to tweak the files a bit if the original files are
complicated, (with tables, etc.) but be aware that OpenOffice does not
use visual basic so any excel files depending upon macros may have to
have the macros rewritten in Star Basic.

Hi
I have just bought OpenOffice 2.0 from Dick Smith to replace Microsoft
Office 2000. I want to uninstall Office 2000 as it is creating problems.
I have skimmed the Guide, particularly relating to Writer- the function I
use most- and am very impressed and keen to start using it.
However what I have not found (or have missed) in the guide is how to
convert all my existing documents etc to OpenOffice format.
I am also not sure whether I should uninstall Office 2000 and then install
OpenOffice or vice versa.
Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
Judi
