My understanding is that there are two problems relate to the Mac and
Windows. The Mac problem seems to be one that OpenOffice cannot fix - it
relates to a deficiency in the OS. I would have thought it was a simple
matter for the Windows installer to create desktop icons, which seems to be
what people want.

For Linux, it would be enough if a set of icons could be provided. I ran a
desktop integration rpm recently just to get the icons - they were available
no other way.

Your major mistake is in thinking that openoffice.org's agenda is influenced
to any degree by the requirements of users or prospective users.
