It does sound like a printer driver issue. You should be able 
to "File" -> "Export as PDF" even for your spreadsheets. 

Also make sure that you are using the latest version of OOo for the Mac ( I 
think that 2.1 should work) and if the problenm persists can you please 
report this in issuezilla ? ( http://openoffice.org -> "My 
Pages" -> "Register", then when you receive a confirmation email, "Login" 
and "File an issue" )
In this way the relevant developers will see your bug report / suggestion and 
you will also see the progress of this feature / bug report if it is 
accepted.
