An alternative to having to install X11, you can try NeoOffice
http://www.neooffice.org. The advantage here is that NeoOffice is OpenOffice
ported in to the
OS X native theme/desktop Aqua, so you don't need X11 installed. On my Windows
and *nix
machines I use OOo, on my new Mac I use NeoOffice.
