Well, that's not quite the same ! OOo Base for managing contacts is easy 
because it's just a big table. For each contact (or entry), you've different 
fields (mail, phone, address, ...). Each entry is independent from the rest.

But for genealogical data, in addition, you have to manage LINKS between 
entries : for a wedding, you've to link 2 entries. Therefore, each time you 
modify a link for a person, you've to synchronize the information for the 
other(s). I'm not sure it's easier with a database manager.

Moreover, Gramps is much nicer (look'n feel) than a database manager !
