You might be right. But I'd like to try just.. well it's a challengeand I should be able to do this with Base.
The biggest advantage would be that I can just write everybody in, thenfire up Gramps and connect people together. There is some work being done on a spreadsheet (CSV) version of thisidea, which I'm looking at as well (so far without asking the list) ;-) http://emergent.brynmawr.edu/emergent/GrampsCSVImport Cheers Hagar de l'Est wrote:Le01.03.2007 15:41, Online User a écrit : Well I figured the links are already inplace. They'll just activate when I put data in the boxes. Administering a database in a database manager just seems efficient. It's been fantastic for Thunderbird. Well, that's not quite the same ! OOo Base for managing contacts iseasy because it's just a big table. For each contact (or entry), you'vedifferent fields (mail, phone, address, ...). Each entry is independentfrom the rest. But for genealogical data, in addition, you have to manage LINKSbetween entries : for a wedding, you've to link 2 entries. Therefore, each time you modify a link for a person, you've to synchronize theinformation for the other(s). I'm not sure it's easier with a databasemanager. Moreover, Gramps is much nicer (look'n feel) than a database manager !
