uptec: .exe files are executables, you run them.
Are you having a problem with the new Office files? OpenOffice.org does not support them, yet. I suggest saving as Office 2003 files (.doc, .xls, etc.) and then working on them with OpenOffice.org until the problems with the new file types are worked on.
