I checked my configuration and I think the problem comes from the fact that I
install with the official OOo packages (RPMs converted by alien).

To have a clean install, I removed my 2.2 version (all packages in Synaptic)
then installed the 2.2.1 RC2. I checked in Synaptic what was exactly installed
and :
- I've openoffice.org-gnome-integration
- I don't have openoffice.org-gnome nor openoffice.org-gtk.
=> The Unicode method input integration may be handled by the Ubuntu packages
(I guess it's a distro related feature).

I'm reluctant to both upgrade to Feisty and keep the Ubuntu version of OOo. So
I'll put up with it. In fact, I quite never use the Unicode input. But I'd like
to see it in the default packages of OOo.

John Jason - just for clarity : Is it correct that now both your computers
have the openoffice.org-gnome and the openoffice.org-gtk packages installed, with the system font preferences all set to the default «Sans» (perhaps «Sans
Bold for window titles ?)», with the sole exception of «Monospace» in the
setting for fonts with constant widths, and that Unicode glyphs can now be
typed in using the procedure discussed previously ?

If so, the question remains, why can't Hagar do this ? Could it be that the
procedure for typing in Unicode glyphs doesn't work on Dapper and that an
update, at least to Edgy and preferably to Feisty, is required ?...
