Look at the icons at the top, approximately midway under the words INSERT and FORMAT is an icon that resembles a ruled paper with a pencil on it. Click that, and you can edit the read-only document.

If your source is a CD, then you cannot edit the document but you will have to "save as" and resave it to your hard disk or to a re-writable media if you intend to keep the modified document.
