For information, there is also a petition launched by Microsoft to support
their ooxml format.
But there is no public count.

I signed the noooxml petition and received my confirmation.

Over 4300 had signed by the time I did.

Do these things really make a difference? Such efforts seem to help in Hollywood where I notice that due to petitions and other hoopla the TV program Jericho is coming back from the dead.

I'm a firm believer in petitions. In fact I always believe in two petitions, one for, and one against for whatever is floating around. Only fair way to find out what the majority wants. A petition without some measurement of equality (pro & con) is meaningless unless the total of elgible signatures is known.
