I'm not talking out of my ass. Using OpenOffice to access to read openoffice databases, type documents, print labels and make spreadsheets is one thing. I don't disagree that OpenOffice is solid on those facets. But an office suite needs to do much more. Why are dialogs so buggy? I have submitted over 20 different bugs that have been confirmed but not fixed, some of them very debilitating. Also, Base does not save to the hard disk unless you use "save as". See for yourself, it stores *everything* in RAM, in other words, it's volatile.
If your business is just using OO to type documents and make labels and spreadsheets, of course openoffice is fine. But if you're a company that depends more heavily on your office suite (say you are like mine where you need to run a 100% solid ODBC database connection to be shipped on millions of products to 20 different companies.), I would advise you not to use OpenOffice. To those who have commented about my personal life, work ethic, etc: You don't know who I am or what my work ethic is. It is my job to make the best of OpenOffice and I am doing so. I help people whenever possible with their OOo problems, and I ask questions like anyone else when I have problems. I don't hate OOo. But if the question is "is openoffice right for businesses who depend on their office suite", my answer is that "it isn't there yet". On another note, some have said that it is simply an issue of getting to know the program better, and dedicating more time to learning it. I'm no Pitonyak. I'll admit that now. Every program takes time to learn, but bugs, design flaws, etc, *even if completely workable* are a hidden cost. Most companies value their time. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
