I have been researching and writing a family history for approx 8 years using Microsoft Word. I was sent a document a few days ago which I could not open, and was told it was Open Office format and to download Open Office. I did not want to do that as I would then have software I probably would not use. However in the end I had to, to read the documents, but the result is that all my MSS and other backup documents appear to have been taken over by Open Office. I can envisage if I want to send a document written in Open Office or even a Word document now by e-mail as an attachment, the receiver will not be able to open it because it will be in Open Office format. To me this is disastrous!!
What can I do about this, apart from getting rid of Open Office on my PC. I don't have the time to play about trying to fix things. I would appreciate your urgent advice. Michael Young NSW Australia
