Open Office 1.1.3 on Debian "Sarge" GNU/Linux, Gnome 2.8.3.
I realize that the official motto of Debian is "We will
release no code before its time".
This is why I _never_ recommend Debian to anyone. Gnome 2.8 and
OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 were released in 2004. In the Linux world, that is
Precambrian. Debian has a newer release (Etch) from April this year,
but it's still full of old versions of pretty much everything.
I still don't know where this help file should be installed.
Typically, the help files are located under the help directory in
whatever directory OpenOffice is installed in.
totally stumped, I just feel helpless, frustrated and angry - and pretty
negative about OpenOffice, even though the problem's more likely to be in
Debian's installation stuff rather than OO itself.
I think you've nailed it there. It's more likely to be a Debian issue
and nothing at all to do with OpenOffice itself. I think you're best
off going with Jonathon's suggestion and installing an updated version
of OpenOffice.org... at least 1.1.5 if you have to stay with the version
1 series, but better to go with 2.2.1 if you can.
