I find it impossible to print with cups from openoffice.org-2.2.1 or from Gimp2

What do you get in /var/log/cups/error_log when you try to print?

Nothing. Nada. Nichts or in the access_log either.
"And there are no log entries under cups for the times of trial." As I mentioned in the original post. There are some entries in the lpd-errs files but I have not examined them in detail and they seemed to only referenced some http stuff. And I have not even tried to use lpd.

try:
mv /usr/bin/lp /usr/bin/lp.old
mv /usr/bin/lpr /usr/bin/lpr.old

this way applications that use lp use the cups lp wich is at /usr/local/bin

kind regards
