Yep, it works :-)  Tested in MS PowerPoint 2002 on Windows XPPro.
However, of course I have it use .wav file for each slide; I don't think
that you can play a .wav through the entire presentation (continuous
sound slide-to-slide) yet.

BTW: the saved .odp file is 171KB & it plays just fine; the exported
.ppt file w/sound embedded is 1,545KB and the original .ppt 1,365KB.

Hope you can get it working on your distro... like I said, I've been
trying to figure this out for about a year now & just happier than %^%#
that your post encouraged me to give it one more try :-)
