     How did you save the file under *.doc? The correct way is to save a 
new file in the *.doc format is to:
1)  Use File > Save (or click the Save button in the toolbars).
2)  Enter the name of the file in the file name box without the .doc 
extension.
3)  Change the File Type drop down list selection from
      OpenDocument Text (.odt)     to
      Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc).
4)  Make sure the box labeled  "Automatic file name extension" is checked.
5)  Click Save.
       
     Did you do all of these things?
