[users] i am using open office 2.3 my problem is i need to e-mail documents that word users can open

Dear Sir i am the  secretary of a charitable group. I need to be able to send 
documents via e-mail that non open office users can open. Although i am trying 
to save documents in word format, when i send them via e-mail the people i send 
them to can not open them. I need to get this rectified or i cannot continue 
using open office.
