I have been a long time user of Open Office and just converted to an

I use the Tiger version on Leopard. Works fine, but it takes a little
effort to get to smooth operation. This is basically due problems with
X11 on Leopard. Someone is diligently ironing out the bugs and a series
of improved releases of the all-important Xquartz binary file can be
found at www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin. You have to open a Terminal window and
type or cut and paste the Unix commands indicated to download and
install the file. Even after that is done there is still some
sluggishness in starting OpenOffice, but I get around that by starting
X11 first. Works just fine now.
This is OT, but if any OOo 2.3 for X11 users on Leopard can tell me how
the heck to turn off the default launching of xterm when X11 is started,
I would be grateful. I have read something about editing a .xinitrc file
in /etc/X11/xnit. The only problem is that I don't seem to have the
/etc/X11 directory!
