Here's a technique I have used with long engineering reports for a
defense contractor. I would put the Title Page, TOC, List of Figures,
Acronym List, and each chapter in a separate file. When merge printing,
each file started on a new page. While I haven't tried it yet with
OO.o, it worked with Wordstar, MS Word, and Ventura Publisher.
I haven't tried merge printing in OOo, but it reminds me of another
possibility. You could have separate files for front matter and for
each chapter, export each file as a PDF, then use a program like
Software995's pdfEdit to combine all into one PDF.
That would lose some of the advantages of using a master document,
though, like automatically updated table of contents.
