Hi Jonathan,
Interestingly this exact discussion is taking place at the forum also,
so the posts here caught my eye.
Hi Drew,
What forum?
Oh sorry, at the User Community Forum ( the web forum ), but in reality
the same subject comes up from time to time at OOoForum also.
The opinions are split pretty much - Some folks give a certain amount of
credence to idea that it is another form of viral marketing...I don't
quite buy into that idea, but I understand the thinking. Mostly it is
someone making a buck. I suppose at the end of the day they are selling
to people not likely to have found the free download on their own. Also,
I don't think they are actually selling download links, they are selling
a CD - a bit pricier then some of the other CD distributors perhaps.
Hell, who knows maybe the guy running that site actually contributes a
few bucks back to the pot. If he did it would have to be quiet, or at
least not mentioned at his site...would kinda hurt sales maybe..
So, does this guy really burn me...no - the guys on eBay that are
actually selling the web address for downloads...now that burns me up...
I made a suggestion at the forum that we might want to organize a letter
writing ( email ) campaign to eBay asking them to ban this type of
activity.
Drew
