Errrm. No. Not on Windows. If I type 5 characters ("U2715") I get just that.
If I hold down the U key it starts repeating. Perhaps on *nix/Mac/???
For all characters in Unicode go to http://www.unicode.org/charts/ on
the Unicode website.
For information on various fonts that are free or available for very low
cost that cover various portions of the Unicode set go to
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/fontsbyrange.html .
As to entering such characters from the keyboard, OpenOffice.org still
does not support the standard way of entering Unicode characters in
Windows using the Alt key and the numeric keypad. I reported this in
February 2006 as issue 61540, but nothing has yet been done about it.
See http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61540 .
I suggest trying the Quick Unicode Tool available free at
http://www.cardbox.com/quick.htm . Note: this does not work properly in
Windows Vista, a least the last time I tried, which is about 3 months ago.
