If the macros in openoffice are different than those in MS office and there

his/ her own. So, till the time OO replaces MS office and macros are written
for OO, a common user like myself would like to stay away from OO. Is that
good enough for OO developers?
I'm not sure what a “normal user” is.
I do know that many users don’t use macros at all. So they won’t see any
problems with OpenOffice.org in respect to macros, because they don’t
use them.
I do know that OpenOffice.org doesn’t use macros the can be used with
WordPerfect or with Microsoft Works or with various other word
processors or spreadsheets, that WordPerfect doesn’t use macros that
work with Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org, and so forth with other word
processors and spreadsheets.
There are also a large number of macros that can be downloaded into
OpenOffice.org for those who want particular special utilities.
At work we now use OpenOffice.org instead of Microsoft Office. This
meant we had to learn how OpenOffice.org macros work and rewrite the
macros we were using with Microsoft Office. I feel this was well worth
the time.
We are expecting to change our high-speed mail merge program soon, which
will similarly mean learning how the new program works. That’s the way
things go when you use computers. If you want to use a different
program, you have to learn it, and all programs work differently. I
can’t use the same macros with Adobe In-Design and Quark Express, with
Corel Draw and The Gimp, and so forth.
If you want to use macros that you can’t just download and don’t want to
spend any time learning how to write your own, then I guess you will
have to stick to Microsoft Office and must continue to pay for upgrades.
That is your choice.
