While we certainly encourage use of OpenOffice, it is possible to install a plug-in from Sun, that will enable support for ODT in Microsoft Word. You can find the plug-in here: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin Also, if it's something you want to view, but not change, your friend can export that file as PDF. > > > I heard that if I do download your program that I will get a TON of pop-ups, > is that true? > No, that's false. Perhaps you can mention that to whoever told you that you would. > > Will it change all of my Word docs to .odt documents? > > You can convert Word doc files to ODT, if you wish, either manually or with a wizard. Conversion will not delete the original Word file. There is one thing to watch for, should you install OpenOffice. During the install, you'll be asked if you wish to make OpenOffice the default application for Microsoft Office files. This is a personal choice and can easily be changed later. OpenOffice is a free download from www.openoffice.org. Do not go to a site that wants to charge you for something that is free.
