OpenOffice, by default, saves in the ISO standard ODF file formats,
which Microsoft refuses to support. To open your documents in Microsoft
Office, you'll have to save in Microsoft file formats. To do this, when
you use "Save as", select the appropriate file format from the drop down
list. Also ensure that automatic file name extension has been
selected. You might also suggest the people receiving your documents
install OpenOffice or the Sun ODF plug-in, which will enable Microsoft
Office to read and write ODF documents.
