I am getting closer, but it still isn't working for me.
You need to install the files libslq3odbc.so ( under adept that is
libsqliteodbc )
Done.
Then you need to configure ODBC ( I installed ODBCConfig I needed to reboot
after install but it then automatically recognized the SQLite driver- you must
start this from a command line also )
Using ODBCConfig I created a User DSN that connected to nwind.kexi ( the file I
created in Kexi )
The above instructions is where I think my problem is. I launched ODBCConfig
and configured the drivers. I now have:
Name Description Driver Lib
Setup Lib
SQLite SQLite ODBC Driver /usr/lib/odbc/libsqliteodbc.so
/usr/lib/odbc/libsqliteodbc.so
SQLite SQLite3 ODBC Driver /usr/lib/odbc/libsqlite3odbc.so
/usr/lib/odbc/libsqlite3odbc.so
I did that yesterday and I can't recall now why I have two drivers. I know I got one of them from the wiki (same as the PDF).
/usr/lib/odbc/libsqliteodbc.so = SQLite 2.x
/usr/lib/odbc/libsqlite3odbc.so = SQLite 3.x
They arrived as a pair when you did the install in adept.
I created the User DSN for my Kexi database and it went OK.
Then create the Base file that uses this ODBC connection...LOL...ok it isn't
that much..
Can you tell me exactly which buttons you used to do this. I still cannot connect to the
Kexi database, but the options in the Base wizard are not comprehensible to me. Did you
start with Create a New Database, Open an Existing Database, or Connect to an Existing
Database? And if I'm supposed to Connect to an Existing Database, do I select ODBC, or
which of the other options in the drop-down box? I did this and clicked on Next,
whereupon I got a window asking for the "name of the ODBC database on your
system." I tried the browse button, but it opens a window that is blank (file
browser function does not work). I have typed in the Kexi database and path, but that
didn't work. Or should I enter here the User DSN name from ODBCConfig? I tried entering
the name of the User DSN, but that also did not work. Does it need a path?
I think I have all the components and files installed, but there are too many
options with no explanations of what they really do.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm close, but I need step by step instructions
OK - I think I got the situation now - well, under Linux it is not quite
as user friendly as under Windows for working with ODBC. But it's just a
matter of order - under windows you can create a new ODBC source from
the browser window - under Linux you need to have it already defined.
So - startup ODBCConfig -
Create a new User level datasource that connects to the Kexi database -
I would (did) use the 3x driver and in my case named it nwind_kexi. (
note that if you start ODBCConfig with sudo you could also create a
system level datasource )
Now you can create a new Base file as you described - select Existing
database - ODBC - now when you click on the browse button you will see
the connection name you created in the step above. Select this, name and
save your Base file. That's it you are good to go.
You can now create your mail merge document and select the Base file as
the data source.
