Just like Word, you ask for a new document and start typing...
The behaviour you describe is not normal. Double clicking on Writer
should just open it with a new blank document in front of you.
Ahhhh. You haven't installed the software. You have only downloaded the
installer program. The behaviour you are seeing is the installer program
asking for information; it is *not* Writer. Please carefully read and
follow the installation instructions at
http://download.openoffice.org/common/instructions.html Note that these
instructions still refer to version 2.0 but nothing has changed ...
