Possibly you have not installed OpenOffice.org yet?
You should have downloaded a file named something like
OOo_2.3.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe. When you click on this it
will ask you where you wish to install the OpenOffice.org program files
and provide a suggested location. This is possibly what you are seeing.
Unless you have some strong reason to do differently, accept the
suggested location. Answer any other questions that are asked by the
installation program. If you plan to continue using Microsoft Word along
with OpenOffice.org, you will probably not want to assign the
OpenOffice.org modules to the corresponds Microsoft Office modules when
you are asked. Otherwise, do so. (But you can always change them back
again.)
When OpenOffice.org is installed, you will a new folder on the system
Start Menu named “OpenOffice.org 2.3”. Open that folder, click on the
“OpenOffice.org Writer” module, and OpenOffice.org Writer will come up
onto your screen. You may create shortcuts from the OpenOffice.org Start
Menu icons if you wish and paste them onto your screen.
