Thanks Michelle, but I do all of what you wrote and more. Essentially, 
as far as I can work it out for every new heading or section I have to 
apply outline numbering. In other words, the numbering is not assigned 
automatically, every section starts at the origin, ie 1, or 1.1 etc.

Is that correct?
