You only need to apply outline numbering once and this is a global property of the document. If I insert two Heading 1 paragraphs, they are numbered sequentially. Sub headings (e.g. heading 2) instead restart at 1 after each heading 1. In case you have manipulated the Numbering of the Heading styles, go back to the styles definition and remove them as they may be what cause the problem. Example: 1 Para formatted as Heading 1 1.1 Para formatted as Heading 2 1.2 Para formatted as Heading 2 <-- the second heading 2 under the same heading 1 is numbered 1.2, not 1.1 2 Para formatted as Heading 1 <-- the second heading 1 in the document is numbered 2 3 Para formatted as Heading 1 3.1 Para formatted as Heading 2 3.2 Para formatted as Heading 2 and so on...
