It sounds as if you might have a corrupt download file. Please go to
http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/md5sums.html and read/follow the
instructions linked to by the "Instructions for using md5sums" link near
the top. Compare the result you get with the result shown on the page
for the file you downloaded. If they match then come back here with
details. If not, then you have a corrupt download file and you should
download a fresh copy.
