I've tried what you suggested and I'm still stymied in my efforts to install openoffice.org 2.3.1

I have enough memory (4 GB; need 600 MB) on my hard drive.

I tried the md5sums procedure but could not install the MDHashTool. As currently stated at the URL that I was given below (http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html)

the MDHash Tool does not work with current versions of Firefox.

In any case, I doubt the problem is a corrupted download. I downloaded the openoffice.org 2.3 software a second time, and tried to install it. It choked at exactly the same point as the previous one did.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what else I could try?

Thanks,
Roger

To elaborate on my previous message, the problem occurs during Installation (after the unpacking). It gets stuck at this file:

c:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org2.3\program\python-core-2.3.4\lib\plat-linux2\CDROM.py
In case that helps.

It sounds as if you might have a corrupt download file. Please go to http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/md5sums.html and read/follow the instructions linked to by the "Instructions for using md5sums" link near the top. Compare the result you get with the result shown on the page for the file you downloaded. If they match then come back here with details. If not, then you have a corrupt download file and you should download a fresh copy.

Alternatively, do you have sufficient disk space? Check at http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs_20.html
