Besides, nobody seems to know how to keep OO/linux from opening in full

I've never encountered that. I suspect that it's something in your user
profile. Rename your .openoffice.org2 profile to something else
(preferably x-.openoffice.org2-x) and restart OOo.
Did exactly that. It seemed to recreate the same stuff that was there
before, including some .wav files -- like berlintakemybreatheaway.wav
that I've never heard of and don't want. What's that for, anyway?
So I started hunting through the sub-sub-sub-sub-etc.directories hoping
to find something that specifies the size. I gave up. The structure is
<ugh> windows-like.
It wouldn't be so bad if all it took was a click in the middle box to
switch to not-full-screen, but (a) it's already not-full-screen and (b)
it's BIGGER than full screen, which means a struggle to find an edge,
drag it out to find a corner to resize it, resize it and then move it
back to a reasonable place on the screen.
I'm pretty sure it didn't do this before the last 2 updates.

campaign against forest fires, but nobody ever mentions
the boy scouts he kills for their hats.
