James, I've had problems with leftover soffice.bin processes, but
they've always cleared up when I either ended the processes or rebooted,
and I've been able to start OOo normally. What happens for you when you
do this? Does it start an extra process every time? Does it never
actually open a session you can use? I'm still on 2.3.1, so I don't know
if 2.4 is the problem or not, but you might also consider uninstalling
2.4 and going back to that level if you have no luck. This must not be a
common issue, though, there are already a lot of folks using 2.4 and I
think you're the first to report this.
