The second of my three remaining problems with OpenOffice is this: I
successfully converted my Word files, in which quotations were marked by
single inverted commas. These reproduce correctly when printing from
OpenWord. But any new ones I enter appear on screen and in print as (don't
know what they are called, but little vertical dashes without the comma
curl. Can anyone please tell me how I can prevent this?
My other problem is that I like to use a rarish font called Charter.
Openword happily converts documents into this, but obstinately leaves all
endnotes untouched. I have had to change these one by one (hugely laborious,
when some of my docs have 200 of them. I must be missing a trick here. Will
anyone be kind enough to help? T. Steel

The first of my 3 remaining problems with OpenOffice is this: I
successfully converted my Microsoft Office finance files 2 months ago &
have used them easily. At the end of the finance year I shunted them into
a New Folder (marked 'Old'!) & happily created new ones. I now find I
can't open the old files. When I try, a window appears, inviting me to
save & only giving the 'Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003' option. I then
have to Cancel or press Save. If I do the latter, I'm told that the file
already exists & do I want to replace it? Can anyone tell me what to do?
I'd be most grateful for help.

Dear Joe: So many thanks for your response. Can't think why I didn't
think of that solution. The problem still seems an odd one, but you have
solved it for me. I hope you'll look out for my other 3 main probs when
I ask in the next day or so! TS
