It's been more than a dozen years since I used Outlook as a stand-alone program without Exchange Server (or whatever the successor to Exchange Server is called these days). I use Outlook as mandated at my employer (using it right now), but use KMail at home (just so you'll know I'm not enamoured of MS products...). My question is: How much of the nifty feature set of "Outlook" depend on its interaction with the matching Microsoft server, and how much is inherent in the program itself? When somebody says that they prefer Outlook, are they really preferring Outlook, or Outlook-and-Exchange-Server? For that matter, if a Microsoft mail server (Exchange or newer) is available and is handling all your mail, does Outlook give you anything that Evolution doesn't? I think that most people who want an Outlook-like Client for OpenOffice are currently using Outlook in an office environment with meetings, resources, fellow employees, etc. all scheduled by a common calendar function.Couple that with MS version of IMAP and that's a lot of server-side functionality that people are attributing to Outlook.
