In early 64-bit versions of Fedora, there were 64-bit released issues
so I needed to use the official release. In Fedora-8, I needed to use
the Fedora release because of an issue supporting java. Now, in
Fedora-9, I need to use the official release because of a bug
relating to macros.
To Andrew Pitonyak: There is also the issue of the NVIDIA drivers,
which does not seem to be a concern to the developers, although Ver.
10 is supposed to address that problem. I hope so! I use ver. 8
whitch works well with NVIDIA drivers, which I cannot figure out why
ver. 9 does not! :-(
The specific issue that I reported with 64-bit Fedora 9 was fixed almost
immediately, but will not likely make it to distribution for a while. As
such, I am using the latest OOo versions. Well, I am using the developer
builds because I am working on 3.0 documentation. This allows me to see
the differences, document them, and grab appropriate screen shots.
As for the NVidia drivers... Fedora 9 shipped with a beta version of the
xorg driver. The nVidia drivers could not compile against the beta, so
you simply could not use it. That problem was fixed recently. I noticed
a few issues that did not exist using the standard fedora driver, however.
First, I use Crossover office to run a program called Enterprise
Architect. To use CrossoverOffice, I must issue the command:
sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0
ok, then I can run Enterprise Architect. Using the standard driver,
everything is fine. Using the nvidia driver, however, some of the menus
and fonts are scrambled. This problem did not exist with the other driver.
