I think H.S. is gently suggesting that indexing of the help files needs to be improved. There are too many features of OO that cannot be found in the help system unless the searcher knows the 'magic word'. A new user who searches for 'revision', for instance, is going to be disappointed...

... I do have to admit, I've often found (& not particularly with OOo) that guessing the words used by the author is 90% of the game; ... . The present search facility is pretty primitive - often turns up a lot of out-of-context terms that may or may not be what's wanted. And looking for 'revision' is, as you indicate, singularly unhelpful.

I'm not disputing this claim, but there are a couple of ideas that may improve people's success with the existing help facility.

o If you do a search for "revision" in the Index tab of Writer's help, you will indeed find nothing (though it happens that you will find the relevant "review function" nearby). But if you search for "revision" in the Find tab instead, the first result is "General Instructions for OpenOffice.org ", which includes, under the "Recording Changes (Revision Marking)" heading, exactly what is needed.

o There is a table in the help text headed "Comparing Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org Terms". This is indexed under "Microsoft Office;feature comparisons" and so can easily be found when needed. This sets out the different terms used by Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org and can sometimes offer help in identifying what you call the "magic word" in question - especially if the user already knows what Microsoft calls its comparable facility. There is a link from this table at "Track changes / Changes - Record" which leads to the required explanation in this case.

I trust this helps.
