When I moved from a PC to a Mac I did this same thing. It was a PITA to
get X-11 working right, and the UI for OO on X-11 on a Mac is really
awkward when you don't have a document open.
A much easier way to accomplish this is to use Neo Office - an Open
Office port for the Mac that doesn't require X-11.
