I've just upgraded my computer and thought I would give Ubuntu
8.04 a go, having previously used OO 2.4.1 under Debian.

I've transferred all of my files successfully and everything works
fine except the Base components.
Need more information
I can't open .odb database files, connect a .dbf file or even open a
registered databases window (F4 in most versions of OOo I believe)
Some error messages?
Sorry... I know what I mean :)

The form that I use for data entry no longer connects to the database.

Pressing F4 to bring up the data sources window does nothing. Attempting
to put the button for that action on the toolbar does nothing- I click
the datasources box in the "Visible Buttons" menu and nothing happens.

I try to open the .odb file and OO does not recognise it. It puts up a
dialog box with all manner of options- everything but Open Office
database file.

When i try to open the .dbf file which stores the data it says
"Impossible to connect"

This is all on a database that has worked flawlessly for some time
under previous versions of OOo.

The version I now have installed is 2.4.1

Before I go to the trouble of uninstalling the Ubuntu version of OOo
and downloading from the OOo web-site, can someone tell me if these
problems are a known feature of the Ubuntu version of OO or have I
done something wrong in installing Ubuntu? I never under-estimate
my ability to stuff up a simple install process!
Normally it should work

HI Keith

I'm not sure about the defaults in ubuntu 8.04, but have you checked your java? See http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7811

I am sure you have checked this but... As a standard the ubuntu office suite does not include Base. Go to the package manager or even install programs and check the 'base' radio button. The application may need installation
