Hi; I have two issues that I would like to test before I put in a feature request. The first on is simple; the second a bit more complex.
1) I have just purchased a wide 22" LCD so that I could get two documents on my screen side-by-side. My OOo Writer is zoomed to 106.25% which gives me room for two real 8.5" letter sized documents on my screen. The problem is that changing screen page size to actual size reduces the number of buttons visible on my formatting toolbar. There is a solution. The 'Apply Style', 'Font Name' and 'Font Size' controls waste about 20% of my toolbar with white space. If I could reduce the amount of white space showing on these controls I could make 3-4 more buttons visible, which is all I really need. a) How can I do this myself; and, b) Is this a feature others might be interested in? 2) This second issue is an issue I have brought up before on issuezilla and really got no response. I would like the 'Apply Style' control to have a longer drop down list that shows more styles that I can choose from on the fly rather than have to work my way through the 'Styles and Formatting' dialogue. Further, I would like to be able to create a 'Style Group'. As an aside, the word 'style' in English has a nuanced meaning. Used for one object it refers to formatting, drawing, or manufacture of a single object (shoes for example have a style). Style can also refer to an over all effect or presentation or impact by a group of objects such as the 'Rococo' style. When I use the term Style Group I am referring to this latter meaning. Creating a 'Style Group' could be something like the following. The 'Styles and Formatting' dialogue would have a 6th button entitled "Style Group" which would open a two columned 'picker' that would allow a user to name the style group. It would have a list of all existing styles in one column and a mechanism to move or copy the names of desired individual styles (whether character, paragraph or page) into the second column. The user should then be able to modify or customize each style in the Style Group as usual. Of course, a 'Default' style name would be used to return the style selections to how they now exist or could be used as a start point for a new Style Group allowing a user to 'unpick' styles they didn't want. The point of having a Style Group is that the user should be able to select the Style Group name in the 'Styles and Formatting' dialogue and only have those individual styles that belong to the Style Group become visible in the 'Apply Style' control. The user should be able to attach a Style Group name to a template if they want. The reason why I want this feature is that I find myself working with the 'Apply Style' a lot as I write. Usually I apply a new style after I pause; perhaps re-read; and, decide what I am going to do next. The 'next' action often starts with mouse in hand and a style change. The 'Apply Style' control is handy. Yet any given type of document usually has a limited number of styles I am using but I am still required to go through a long un-useful or irrelevant list of styles. I do not have the programming skills to undertake the creation of this feature. but ...
