today I tested with version Thunderbird version 24 and that works. But now I 
have a question. I know there did exist Thunderbird 10 and 17 as ESRs, but TB 
did merge it somehow …

What is the correct strategy for companies that do not want to update every 
TB-release? And especially, if extensions no longer work? How are other people 
deal with TB and the updates.php stuff provided bei Inverse?

I really would like to have a stable TB with working extensions, if that is 
somehow possible :-)
